We regularly work near The Square, Bailey Woods Trail, Avent Park, where water oak, southern red oak, loblolly pine are common. When a tree has to come down, whether it's a split water oak leaning over a rental near campus or a loblolly that finally gave up after two wet springs, we bring the right saws, rigging and a plan for where that wood is going before we ever put a blade in the bark.

  • On-site written estimate before any cutting starts
  • Felling or sectional (rigged) removal depending on clearance
  • Stump left flush-cut unless grinding is added
  • Full debris haul-off and yard cleanup
  • Coordination with NEMEPA or Oxford Utilities near power lines
  • Certificate of insurance provided on request

How we plan a removal

Before the first cut, we walk the tree: look at the lean, check for included bark and codominant stems, look at root flare for rot or heaving, and figure out what's in the drop zone. A lot of these old water oaks in Oxford neighborhoods have hidden decay pockets you won't see until the saw's already in the wood.

If there's room, we fell the tree in one piece and buck it up on the ground. If it's within reach of a roof, power line, fence, or a neighbor's garage, we take it down in sections with rope and rigging, lowering pieces instead of dropping them.

Equipment we run

Bucket truck for straight-shot access, climbing gear for trees with no good bucket setup, and a mini skid loader for hauling rounds and brush off tight in-town lots. For bigger jobs we bring a chipper right to the site so debris doesn't sit around for days.

Utility lines and permits

If a tree is anywhere near a line owned by North East Mississippi Electric Power Association or Oxford Utilities, we coordinate clearance before cutting, not after. Inside city limits, some removals need a permit depending on species and location; we handle that paperwork so you don't have to chase it down.

Property types we see most

In-town lots around the Square and along South Lamar are tight, with mature oaks planted decades ago right up against porches and power lines. Newer subdivisions off Old Taylor Road and near Highway 6 have younger pines and Bradford pears that split easily in ice. Student rental duplexes near campus often have overgrown trees nobody has pruned in years because landlords defer maintenance until a limb comes down.

Tree Removal in Oxford, MS Questions

It depends on height, species, lean, and how close the tree is to a structure or line. A straightforward open-yard pine runs less than a leaning water oak over a roof that has to be roped down in pieces. We give a firm number after walking the site, not before.
