Sometimes grinding isn't enough. If you're putting in a footing, a driveway extension, or a garden bed and you need the actual root mass gone, not just ground down, that's full stump removal: digging or pulling the stump and major root system out of the ground entirely.
It's more disruptive to the yard than grinding since it leaves a hole that needs to be backfilled, but it's the right call when future digging or construction is going to hit roots left in the ground.

How we remove a stump fully
Depending on size and access, we use a mini excavator or a skid steer with a grapple to pull the stump and root ball, then cut back major roots that extend into the surrounding soil.
Backfill and grading
Once the stump is out we backfill the hole with soil and rough-grade it. If you're seeding or sodding, we can bring in topsoil to match the surrounding yard.
When removal beats grinding
Choose full removal over grinding when you're excavating for a foundation, pool, driveway, or septic line in that exact spot, or when the stump and roots are heaving a nearby walkway or slab and need to come out completely.
